- Our reading curriculum, Reading Street, is all
available on line. Students will receive usernames and passwords for
access.
Guided Reading is also part of 4th grade Reading. Students read
and discuss chapter books and novels in small groups. Literature
Circles will be incorporated later in the year, they are similar to
adult book clubs in that students read a portion of a book, then
discuss their feelings on characters, events, predictions and so on.

- Each day I read aloud. Some might think 4th graders are "too
old" to be read to, not so. They love it! Try it at home. What a
perfect chance for quality time together.
- DEAR Time (Drop Everything and Read) is also a daily occurrence. Students
do just as the name suggests for about 15 minutes. The book they read
for DEAR time should be the same book they bring home each night to
read.
- The Accelerated Reading Program (AR) is a computerized incentive program.
Students are expected to read 100 AR points by the end of the year,
which is about 3 points per week. Students record weekly progress on a
log sheet. In order to earn
points, students do need to spend time independently reading at home
each night.
- Nearly every educator I know believes in the tremendous advantage
kids have if they enjoy reading and spend time each day with a book.
Newspapers, books and magazines should be readily available for your
kids. Make a visit to the Webster Public Library. It's worth the time!
